Here are the top stories in Glastonbury today:

Town Manager, Richard J. Johnson received wage increase by Town Council

At the September Town Council meeting, members voted to approve a 2 percent wage hike effective July 1, 2021 for Johnson and make a $7,500 contribution to the Town Manager's retirement fund, meeting minutes state.

An amendment by Council member White Osgood to reduce the $7,500 to $5,000 failed by a vote of 6-3. The council voted 7-2 to approve the wage hike and to make the $7,500 contribution.

In recent years the council has approved $5,000 but members felt $7,500 was warranted due to the "exceptional" year due to COVID-19, and the "Town Manager went above and beyond to respond to the crisis," meeting minutes state. "This is a way for the Town to say thank you."

Council Chairman Thomas P. Gullotta remarked that, just a few days after surgery, Johnson made sure that homes with concerns about flooding had services in place, meeting minutes state.
