GLASTONBURY, CT — High water levels on the Connecticut River in Glastonbury continued to be troublesome Friday.

Because of flooding, and more heavy rains in the Northeast this week, the boat launch at Riverfront Park is closed until further notice.

Residents are being asked to stay away from the lower level of the boathouse until the water has receded. Town staff members will then evaluate the grounds and docks, and remove barricades when it is safe, officials said.

Rain is possible through the weekend, officials said.

Over the past four days, large amounts of debris have been floating in the Connecticut River, some of which is currently underwater and not visible. Residents are being cautioned to stay out of the river (including pets), until the park "can be fully and safely reopened," officials said.

"The town has taken provisions to anchor the public boat docks to the pylons. As the water recedes, staff will periodically evaluate all docks and ramps before granting access to the general public," officials said. "Town staff will work as quickly as possible to reopen the boathouse/launch for the public’s enjoyment; however, the safety of the community continues to be our top priority."

Earlier this week, the Connecticut River Ferry was closed because of high water and a dock broke loose from a local marina. See the details here.
