Man Holds Up Bank In Glastonbury, Caught Soon After: Police

GLASTONBURY, CT — A man held up a bank in Glastonbury on Friday, but was apprehended soon after, police said.

The robbery took place at 1:25 p.m. at the Webster Bank branch at 141 Hebron Ave.

According to a police report, a man walked up to a teller and handed the teller a note demanding money and stated he had a gun.

The man then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, a report indicates.

Glastonbury officers were able to identify a particular vehicle and, with the assistance of Windsor Locks police, located both the vehicle and the suspect at his home in Windsor Locks a few hours later, according to a report.

The robber was identified as 39-year-old Geoffrey Allen Shapiro. He was charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree larceny, first-degree threatening, and second-degree breach of peace, police said.

Shapiro was being held on a $250,000 surety bond Friday night with an arraignment slated for Monday, police said.
