Not Guilty: Verdict in Trial of Glastonbury Man Accused of Abusing Adopted Son

A judge has ruled that Douglas Wirth is not guilty of the charges.

One of two Glastonbury men accused of sexually abusing their nine adopted sons has been found not guilty, according to a report.

Douglas Wirth and his former husband, George Harasz, were first arrested in 2011 — accused of abusing nine boys in total, all of whom were adopted. The children were adopted through the Department of Children and Families.

In April 2013, both men withdrew plea bargain deals on the charges. At the time, defense lawyers for the two men said that a trial was necessary for the men to clear their names. The men originally agreed to plead no contest to the charges but objected to prosecutors’ requirement they register as sex offenders.

According to WFSB, a judge ruled the evidence against Wirth, who was charged with sexual assault, illicit sexual contact with a minor and risk of injury, was not credible.

Harasz’s trial is set for next month.
