Runners Living Well at Glastonbury 5k Race

About 150 runners came out to run in the 11th annual Living Well in Glastonbury 5k race on Saturday.

Racers of all ages—from 8 to 91 years old—came out to run the11th annual Living Well in Glastonbury 5k road race Saturday morning, sponsored by the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce.

Vernon resident Brian Nelson was the first runner to cross the finish line, with an unofficial time of 16:21.

The race attracted runners of all ages and locations, from local brother and sister Leo and Camilla Atalla, 8 and 10-years-old, to 91-year-old former All-American University of Connecticut racer Bill Tribou of Granby.

The race was the first official race in the Living Well Running Series, and saw roughly 150 registered racers, according to Chamber member Ginger Lynn. The race began at 8 a.m. at Smith Middle School, 216 Addison Road, and followed a relatively flat 3.1-mile loop through the Addison Road neighborhood before finishing back by the school’s baseball field.

“The Chamber supports living well,” Chamber President Mary Ellen Dombrowski said of Saturday’s event. “This is just one of the many things we do.”

There are 60 members of the Chamber’s wellness council, Dombrowski said. The next event is the Apple Harvest Festival 5k, 1k and Kidz fun Run on Oct. 14. [http://www.glastonburychamber.net/wcevents/eventdetail.aspx?EventID=1148]
