Teen Injured in Bonfire Blast
State police say the bonfire was set on Jones Hollow Road in Marlborough.

An 18-year-old man was seriously injured in an explosion that occurred late Sunday at the site of a bonfire in Marlborough.
Connecticut State Police said it was about 9:45 p.m. when troopers from Troop K-Colchester were dispatched to a reported explosion that had occurred in the rear of 342 Jones Hollow Rd. in Marlborough.
Troopers and EMS found the victim suffering from serious abdominal, and other injuries, as a result of the explosion, police said. EMS immediately rendered first aid, while Troopers secured the scene and searched the area for other victims. None were located.

The victim, Robert Hill, of 7 Finley Hill Rd., Marloborough, was transported to Hartford Hospital via LifeStar for evaluation.
Members of the Marlborough Fire Department, along with the Marlborough Fire Marshal, responded to the scene to extinguish the small fire that resulted from the explosion.

Investigators said it was determined that Hill, along with several other teenagers, was conducting a bonfire when an unknown object, contained in a plastic bag, was placed in the fire. The unknown object exploded resulting in fragments of the debris striking and injuring Hill.
State Police Detectives from both Eastern District Major Crime and the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit responded to assist with the investigation.
