Uses Outlined for Glastonbury's Eastbury School

The school is designated for closure in 2018.

GLASTONBURY, CT — Education officials are outlining future uses for the Eastbury School building that include an extension of the athletic department, special education programs and even adult education.

School system officials have outlined the plans in a website post. The school is active this academic year but is marked for closure in 2018.

Under the plan, several district special education programs, including the LINKS Academy, post-graduate programs, and the special education preschool program would be relocated to the Eastbury building.

The district's Pupil Services/Special Education offices would also move to Eastbury, officials said.

"There are numerous educational and financial benefits to centralizing these special education programs and providing room for them to expand," officials said.

The building would house a weight room for the athletic department, open to training for all students in the local system, officials said.

More details have been posted on the Board of Education's Eastbury School Utilization report.

The plan is likely to be discussed and voted upon during upcoming Board of Education meetings, officials said.
