Did you know that 1 in 6 children in Connecticut is “food insecure”? Or that nearly half a million people in Connecticut struggle with hunger?

That’s why Wild Birds Unlimited of Glastonbury is hosting a food drive to help support the Connecticut Food Bank and its hunger relief mission. We can all help make a difference for the people in our community.

RECEIVE $5.00 OFF A PURCHASE OF $25.00 OR MORE for anyone who brings in non perishable food item(s) or personal care product(s) between 10/16/20 and 10/29/20. (One discount per visit)

All proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Food Bank, which provided enough food last year to prepare more than 18.5 million meals.

MOST NEEDED ITEMS BY CONNECTICUT FOOD BANK

Wheat pasta – whole grain

Macaroni and cheese, whole grain

Brown or wild rice

Gluten-free grains – rice, polenta, quinoa

Cereals, low-sugar

Unsweetened oatmeal

Granola, low-sugar, low-fat

Canned fruit packed in 100% juice or water

Dried fruits, unsweetened such as raisins (only 100% fruit leather, no roll ups)

Applesauce, 100% fruit, unsweetened

100% fruit juice

Canned vegetables, low-sodium

Canned vegetable soup, low-sodium

Canned tomato products, low sodium

Pasta sauce, low sugar, low sodium

Salsa

Shelf stable milk, low-fat or non-fat are best

Powdered milk

Non-dairy milk like almond, coconut, rice, soy

Whole grain crackers

Snack bars with natural sugars like dried fruit

Dried herbs and spices

Cooking oil such as olive or canola
