GLASTONBURY, CT — A project to replace aging and deteriorating power line towers in some parts of Glastonbury has begun.

Eversource Energy has targeted towers in along the right of way off Manchester Road and Birch Mountain Road as well as other locations along the Glastonbury right of way. Work is slated to begin Thursday and continue through late June from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, although work on Sundays can be requested with limited work hours, officials said.

The project, called the "368 Asset Condition Structure Replacement Project," includes replacing existing, aged wood structures with new, more durable steel structures, with a finish that "weathers" or darkens over time.

The need to replace the transmission structures along Eversource's 368 Line are due to the age older wooden towers. along with weather exposure and damage caused by woodpeckers. The birds have ravaged the towers over the years, Eversource officials have said.
