Wrong-Way Roundabout Driver Arrested On Warrant In Glastonbury

A driver who fled a traffic stop while heading the wrong way in a roundabout has been charged by Glastonbury police.

GLASTONBURY, CT — A suspended and suspected drunken driver who was trying to elude police while heading the wrong way in a Glastonbury roundabout has been arrested on a warrant, police said.

Police released details of the Aug. 29 warrant arrest Thursday. Ismael Rodriguez was located at his residence in New Britain and taken into custody on an active warrant in connection with a May 26 incident, according to an arrest report.

Just after midnight, a traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle Rodriguez was driving, but he fled police at a high rate of speed, turned around, and then drove head-on at the cruiser.

He then fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed, entered the roundabout at Hebron Avenue and House Street in the wrong direction, veered off the pavement and hit a business sign and a house, according to an arrest report.

Rodriguez ran from the vehicle and was located in a wooded area nearby with the assistance of a Connecticut State Police canine, according t0 an arrest report.

Rodriguez, 43, was charged with:

  • Driving the wrong way in a roundabout
  • Engaging police in a pursuit
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Interfering with police
  • Reckless driving
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment
  • Assault on a public safety officer

Rodriguez appeared in Manchester Superior Court on Aug. 29 and his initial $10,000 bond was increased to $75,000, court records show. He remained in custody Thursday and is set for another court appearance on Oct 16, records show.
