East Granby Lions Duck Race Grand Prize Winner

The East Granby Lions held their First Annual Duck Race Fundraiser on July 13th at Granbrook Park.  In addition to the Duck Race there was a pig roast and live music at the event. At exactly 1:30 pm on the 13th, 1013 plastic ducks were dropped over the Greenway Bridge into Salmon Brook where they made a mad dash towards the finish line downstream!  There were over a hundred spectators lining the bank watching the excitement. First Selectman Jim Hayden was at the finish line and pulled out the Grand Prize winning duck which belonged to East Granby resident Rollin Cowles. The Grand Prize was a $500 Visa Debit Card.

All proceeds raised will be used to help fund the East Granby Lions charitable activities which include annual college scholarships, support for the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and numerous other local organizations.  The East Granby Lions also support the Connecticut and International Lions blindness prevention programs and assistance for those without sight.

The race was such a success that the Lions are already planning for next year’s event!
