East Granby Obituary: Albert Biddleman, 86

Condolences to his family and friends.

Albert F. Biddleman, 86, of Bloomfield, formerly of East Granby, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, October 8, 2016 after a 30+ year battle with Parkinson's disease. Al's last years were extremely difficult but he still enjoyed getting out and spending time with family and friends.

Al was born in Scranton, PA on November, 27, 1929, the son of Charles and Gladys Biddleman. Al's family moved to Connecticut where he graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford. From there he went to Lehigh University majoring in math. After college Al served in the Army during the Korean War. When the war ended Al returned to Hartford where he spent his entire 33-year career as an Actuary working for CIGNA Corporation. This is where he met and married the love of his life Nancy McLean.

Al was very devoted to his family and to community service. Al was a community leader in East Granby where he lived for 44 years. Al served on and chaired many town boards, was on the Governor's Housing Task Force, was on the Board of Directors of Winsted Savings Bank and was an actively involved member of the East Granby Congregational Church for over 50 years. He was involved in all aspects of the Church from serving as President to being in the bell choir. The Church was a major part of Al's life and is where he and Nancy met many of their close friends. The Church is also where he became a math tutor and mentor to many High School students.

Al was voted East Granby Citizen of the Year not once, but twice and was recognized by the CT Secretary of State as volunteer of the year. Al was known for his wit and sense of humor and always loved a good pun. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He also had many hobbies. He loved boating, sailing, photography, woodworking and videography.

Al was pre deceased by his parents and his brother Charles. He is survived by his wife and devoted care giver Nancy, his daughter Wendy, her partner Peter Hungerford, her sons James and Christopher all of Kensington, and his son Robert and his husband Daniel Sullivan of West Hartford.

The family would like to express extreme gratitude to Leroy Samuels. Leroy was a compassionate and caring caregiver and made it possible for Al to continue living at home.

Calling hours will be from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, October 13 at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave, Windsor. A funeral service will be held at East Granby Congregational Church, 9 Rainbow Rd East Granby on Friday, October 14th at 1 PM, followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby.

The family requests that in-lieu of flowers donations be made in Al's memory to the East Granby Congregational Church, 9 Rainbow Rd East Granby, CT 06026 and the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 153 Parkinson Ave, Staten Island, NY10305.
