Encampment to Feature Olde Lebanon Towne Militia, Marquis of Granby, Old Tyme Fiddlers, Other Groups

Five major participants have been announced for the Revolutionary War Encampment scheduled for the first weekend in October in East Granby.

Ye Olde Lebanon Towne Militia portrays an irregular militia group whose roots trace back to the Revolutionary Period, with its first battle in 1775.  This living history group will recreate a militia campsite, featuring military drills, musket practice, and cannon fire, as well as cooking and demonstration of traditional roles of women and children who accompanied the men at camp.

The Marquis of Granby Ancient Fyfe and Drum Corps (performing Saturday) is a historic re-creation of a Revolutionary War unit which accompanied the military.  An honored tradition in Granby since its beginnings in 1969, the group recreates the spirit of the many brave and patriotic boys who contributed to their country's fight for freedom.

History Without Walls (History WOW) for Time Travel Adventures was formed by Old New Gate Prison & Copper Mine, Inc. more than twenty years ago to preserve and respect our area's rich heritage.  This group of historic interpreters focus on educating youth of all ages about the colonial period of New England history, with a goal of instilling a sense of history and pride of community through hands-on demonstrations and participatory activities which create a real, tangible connection to our past.

Connecticut Bristol Old Tyme Fiddlers Club (performing Sunday) consists of fiddlers and other musicians aged 12 to 92 who play the kind of music that gets hands clapping and feet stomping.  Their purpose is to preserve and promote the art and tradition of old time fiddling that has been passed down from generation to generation not by written music - but by ear.

The Great Quinnehtukqut Company of Artificers & Traders focuses on the period from 1750 to 1785 and portrays a company of citizens providing products and services in support of military units and militia during the Revolutionary War.  Five members of the organization will be at the Encampment on Saturday demonstrating the following:  leatherwork, weaving, quilting, stenciling & calligraphy, and woodsman/survival skills.

In addition to these major participants, there will be other historic exhibits and demonstrations, fun children's activities, vintage stargazing and astronomy, food, music, and participation by several area community groups.

“An Historic Weekend in East Granby” is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th, and will take place at East Granby Farms, 79 North Main Street (Route 187) in East Granby.
