Fresh Cool Veggies, Kayaks, Italian Ice - Think Cool Wednesday at East Granby Farmers Market
The weather will be Hot Hot Hot, but cross your fingers for Dry Dry Dry (and certainly not Humid or Wet)! Last week's Market was mostly rained out, but a few diehard vendors stayed, and one of our scheduled entertainers - Jen Hosack - braved the heavy rain and played her guitar under a borrowed tent (she's joining us again this week). Our other featured entertainer from last week - Fern's Music for Kids - is rescheduled for August 7th.
You can also find out more about this weekend's Triple Crown Kayak Race by stopping by the Market. This annual event, held on the Farmington River at Tariffville Gorge, brings some of the best kayakers in the country to our own backyard. The East Granby Economic Development Commission will again be running shuttles to the best viewing areas from the Center Shops. Be sure to stop by for event information - just look for the kayak!
We'll have a full market this week, with all our regulars - Chet's Italian Ice, George Hall Farm, Hastings Farm, Hemlock Knoll, Lost Acres Orchard, Newgate Farms, Oxen Hill Farm, Raw Foods Central, Sweet Pea Farm, and Sweet Wind Farm - plus Woof N Wheels, Beading Adventures, and Salsa Loca.
Expect blueberries, raspberries, kale, beets, corn, radicchio, beans, squash, tomatoes, cukes, onions, and lots more fresh produce along with fresh flowers, meats, cheeses, yogurt, preserves and maple products. Chet's Italian Ice will have Coconut Mojito Ice with lime and fresh mint (but no buzz), along with lemon, strawberry and mango. Don't forget to pick up doggie treats for your favorite pooch. And who wants to heat up their oven during this hot weather? Get fresh baked bread and sweets from Lost Acres Orchard or Newgate Farms instead!
East Granby Farmers Market is a farm-oriented venue for the very best in Connecticut grown produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and other handmade and locally harvested items. The Market is open from 3 - 6PM on Wednesdays, June 19th through September 25th, 2013, and is located at The Center Shops, corner of Routes 20 and 187, in the center of East Granby. The Market is run entirely by volunteers, and vendor fees directly benefit the East Granby Public Library.
