
Earl G. Ahrens, 80, of West Suffield, beloved husband of Judith (Miller) Ahrens passed away peacefully Thursday, January 21, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 21, 1935 in Hartford and lived in Windsor and Granby before moving to West Suffield 47 years ago. Earl was the son of the late Theodore R. and Vivian (Goddard) Ahrens. He graduated from Windsor High School and the University of Connecticut earning his Bachelor Degree in business. He was in the National Guard and worked at Combustion Engineering for 35 years in the Purchasing Dept. He was a member of the West Suffield Congregational Church having served on various committees; he was also a member of the Suffield Historical Society, The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and a member of the West Suffield Sportsmen Club for 65 years. He loved his trips to Maine, New Foundland, Nova Scotia and Maryland where he hunted and fished. Earl enjoyed traveling with his family- a special place Cape Cod in which they went every year.
In addition to Judith, his wife of 51 years, he leaves his son, Brian Ahrens and his wife, Heather of Orleans, MA; his daughter, Kimberly Humiston and her husband Jason of Enfield; his beloved grandchildren, Logan and Ashley Humiston. He also leaves a niece Marianne Fontaine and her husband Sean Williams of Granby. He was predeceased by his sister, Florence Fontaine and nephew, Mark Fontaine.

A special thank you to his caregiver, Colleen who has taken care of him for the last year, as well as Masonicare Hospice for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time.
His family will receive friends Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 1-3 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield, followed by a memorial service at 3 PM. Burial will be in West Suffield Cemetery in the spring.
