Granby Obituary: Grace Holihan, 87

Grace (Prowe) Holihan, 87, of Falmouth, MA and formerly of Granby and Simsbury, beloved wife for 50 years of the late Henry T. Holihan, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2016, at Falmouth Hospital.

Born in Hartford on October 3, 1928, daughter of the late Edward T. and Mildred (Enko) Prowe, she was raised in Avon and had lived in Simsbury for 20 years and Granby for 18 years before moving to Falmouth, MA in 2013. Grace started her career at Simsbury Bank and later worked for Fleet Bank until her retirement in 1991 after over 20 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed croqueting, completing crossword puzzles, and tending to the flower gardens around her home. After moving to Cape Cod, Grace attended the Waquoit Congregational Church in Falmouth for the last several years.

She leaves a son, Bruce H. Holihan and his wife Stella of Simsbury; two daughters, Laurie Christensen and her husband Neils of Granby and Deborah G. Holihan of Falmouth, MA; two sisters, Eleanor Johnson of Avon and Mildred Phillips of Winsted; five grandchildren, Stephanie Oswecki and her husband John "J.C." of West Suffield, Jeremy Christensen and his husband Tunis Odell of Granby, Melissa DeJesus and her husband Luis of North Carolina, Joshua Holihan, and Nicholas Holihan both of Simsbury; and nine nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Keith Holihan; and a brother, Edward W. Prowe.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, June 10, 5-8 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m., at Valley Brook Community Church, 160 Granville Rd., (Rt. 189) North Granby. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Avon.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and ICU staff at Falmouth Hospital for their excellent care. They would also like to thank the staff at Fresenius Medical Care of Mashpee and at Bayada Home Health Care in Falmouth, especially Christine, Sheila, and Theo for the loving care they provided to their mother over the last several years.
