Myron Levitt Glanz, 81, of Windsor, beloved husband for 60 years to Edith (Kosch) Glanz, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015.
Born in Hartford, son of the late Louis and Mary (Levitt) Glanz, he was raised in Wilson and was a lifelong Windsor resident. He graduated from John Fitch High School in 1952 where his yearbook states he was the “instigator of classroom chaos and a persuasive personality”. He served proudly in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War where he met his beloved wife Edith. He had been a past Commander of both the Raymond B. McHugh Post #4740 VFW and Gray Dickinson Post # 59 American Legion both of Windsor, the Jewish American War Veterans, and the DAV. A true entrepreneur, he served as an aircraft mechanic for both Kaman Corporation and Coombs Gates and as a resteraunteur he operated the food service at Meadow Lanes and the Frank Marotta Auto Shows. He also operated the Stables Restaurant in Avon then Granby.
Affectionately known as “Maxie”, he was known as Windsor’s own “American Picker”. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren who provided his source of energy in his later years. He also loved holidays, especially Thanksgiving, where his table was always open to family and friends. His devotion to fellow veterans was unwavering as he participated in the Memorial Day Observances in Windsor for decades.
