I ask again - is it REALLY May??

I think we're going to get a month's worth of rain in one week! With temperatures in the raw range (maybe even a frost tonight, unless it's too damp) it seems more like early April. What a season! It looks like the kale and spinach transplants survived the downpour the other night, though I'm not sure where all my lettuce, tatsoi, and bok choy seeds ended up - they could have washed down the sides of the raised beds and into the aisles. The chard seed just may have been large enough to stay in place but I might try reseeding them just in case.

The tomatoes spent all of Thursday and Friday in the garage, it stayed above 50 in there last night, but it wasn't going to get any warmer and with lows forecast to be near 38 tonight I moved the larger plants into the basement, and the 4" pots in trays back into the house. I really do want to get them back outside (or at least in the garage) as soon as possible, though, drastic swings in temperature and humidity can stress them out.   I know it does me (oh, my aching sinuses!). But better to be sheltered right now.

So if anyone has plants outside, bring them in. I think it's supposed to get cold even in town the next couple of nights - and windy too which can do worse damage than the cold. If you've already planted, try your best to cover them (if you use plastic, make sure it doesn't touch the plants, and secure it well so it doesn't blow off).

And if the worst should happen, I still have extras of a few varieties (mostly SuperSweet 100, Gardeners' Delight cherries, and Pink Brandywine but some other heirlooms as well). Just email me at BriarwoodsFarm@gmail.com.

Try to stay warm and dry (and keep your summer veggies with you). The sun will come out, if not tomorrow, then soon!
