Health and Wellness day at the Granby Farmer’s Market was a great success. Thank you to all who participated, especially our sponsor for the day Granby Pharmacy! We had a lot of exciting activities: acupuncture demos, massage demos, an outdoor Zumba class, and chef Mike Webster was with us again to show new and different ways to prepare items purchased at the market. He made several delicious salads using fresh shiitake mushrooms from New England Green Mushroom, corn, nectarines and squash from Killam and Bassette Farmstead and balsamic vinegar from Capa di Roma. Bill Benson did a great job providing us with music all afternoon!
If you missed it be sure to come and see us this Tuesday, our theme will be all about raising backyard chickens. Keeping a small flock of backyard chickens is becoming a very popular pastime. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it is a great way to be sure that your eggs have been raised humanely and that they are as fresh and healthy as can be. Our special guests for the day will be the Granby 4-H Poultry Club and Horses and Hounds. Granby 4-H Poultry Club members Brittany and Diane Saunders, Jacob and Heather Payton, Gabrielle Vitti, and Caroline Watson will be bringing some of their chickens and discussing chicken showmanship. Horses and Hounds will be there as our sponsor for the day. Horses and Hounds is our local full service feed store providing “every need for every breed.” They offer educational seminars on animal nutrition for pet owners and can tell you what is involved in starting up a backyard coop. Of course, keeping chickens isn’t for everyone, you can always purchase farm fresh eggs from our market!
