Name change fee???

We got married. 2012
filed marriage license with town 
paid fee
changed dmv license 
paid fee
now town says must complete name change application. Show ID and pay AGAIN
moderate fee to change my last name on towns records 
in this day in age seems like few keystrokes shouldn't cost 
ESP when we are long time Granby residents and tax payers
can other Granby newly married couples please comment on this
did you have to go through this & pay too
