The Whitewater Triple Crown Kayak Championship held this past weekend at Tariffville Gorge was described by the organizers as a major success. According to Andy Kuhlberg of Canton, "I thought this was our best year ever. We were very happy with the results".
The event, usually held in April, was held in July this year. It attracted a wide range of competitors from throughout the U.S. as and from as far away as Canada and New Zealand.
East Granby EDC ran a shuttle to the best viewing site on the East Granby side of the Farmington River due to limited parking along Tunxis Avenue and the need for ready access for fire and ambulance personnel. EDC Chair Lee Sandora organized the shuttle, with air conditioned buses courtesy of Z Parking of East Granby, and East Granby Senior Services. In addition, Gio's provided pizza to the first responders who stayed at the site in the event of an emergency.
The EDC would also like to thank those who helped with signs, checking parking passes at the gate, and monitoring the shuttle buses at the Center Shops: Tom Derlinga, Joe Doering, Jim Feeney, Jim Francoline, Norm Hausmann, Dave Holl, Paul Oliva, Lee Sandora, Leo Stemp, Gary Vick, Tami Zawistowski, John Ziobro.
Photos accompanying this posting were taken by Tami Zawistowski at Saturday's freestyle competition.
