4 People Tried To Deposit Counterfeit Check Worth Over $11K: Greenwich PD

Officers noticed "suspicious activity" related to transactions at a local financial institution, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — Four people were arrested last week after police say they tried to fraudulently deposit a counterfeit check worth over $11,000.

Moneisha Powell-Porter, 29, of West Orange, N.J., and Taron Loadholt, 24, Rahiem Robinson, 19, and Catherine Braimah, 21, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., face various identity theft, forgery and conspiracy charges, according to their arrest reports.

On May 1 at around 5:15 p.m., plainclothes Greenwich police officers noticed "suspicious activity in the area of the Central Greenwich Business District related to transactions the arrestees were engaged in at a local financial institution," police said in arrest reports.

Patrol officers and plainclothes officers working in the area were able to detain and identify four people as Powell-Porter, Loadholt, Robinson and Braimah, police said.

An investigation found that the arrestees conspired with each other to fraudulently deposit a counterfeit check for $11,129.16, police said.

The remitter of the counterfeit check was contacted and it was verified that their personal identifying information had been compromised, police said. The remitter said they did not know the arrestees, nor did they issue them a check.

The full charges are as follows:

Powell-Porter: criminal attempt at second-degree larceny; conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny; first-degree identity theft; conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft; and conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery.

Released on a written promise to appear - scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 16.


Loadholt: Conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny; conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft; and conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery.

Posted a $10,000 bond - scheduled to appear in court on May 16.


Robinson: Conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny; conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft; second-degree forgery; conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery; third-degree forgery.

Posted a $50,000 bond - scheduled to appear in court on May 16.


Braimah: Conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny; conspiracy to commit first-degree identity theft; conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery.

Released on a written promise to appear - scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
