Anthony J. Longo: Local Business Owner, World War II Veteran
The Greenwich resident died Sept. 28 at the age of 90.

Anthony J. Longo, passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2015 at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 16, 1925 in Greenwich, CT. He was the beloved son of the late Salvatore R. Longo, Sr. and Carbina Pedwano Longo.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Antoinette M. Longo; his son, Salvatore; three daughters, Carbina Fano, Eleanor and her husband Felix J. Guiffra, Jr., and Deborah and her husband Russell W. Penn; a sister, Eleanor Lodato; nine grandchildren and their spouses, and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a large extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Louise Romanchuk; a brother, Salvatore R. Longo, Jr.; son-in-law, Robert M. Fano; and grandson, Joseph D. Longo.

He served in the 1370th Army Air Force Base Unit during World War II from April 1943 to January 1946. After basic training he served as a Special Vehicle Operator with Air Transport Command in Burma, India. He held government licenses to operate large semi-trailers, trailer trucks, wrecking equipment, refueling units, diesel powered towing equipment and other special purpose vehicles.
After the war ended, he joined his father and brother in business and later formed Sal Longo & Sons excavating and paving business, which he operated with his brother, Salvatore R. Longo, Jr., until his retirement in 1990.
He was a devoted family man and a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He had an enormous heart with a compassionate and generous spirit. He loved and was loved by all who knew him and even those who met him for the first time. His love of life, family, friends and strong faith in the Lord is what sustained him throughout his illness.
He was a real sports enthusiast…..a love and appreciation of all sports. He enjoyed the game of golf for many years and was fortunate to attain a hole in one at Flamingo Lakes in Florida in 1989. He was a member of the National Hole in One Association and proudly displayed the trophy in his home. He took part in many sports throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed tennis, roller skating and ice skating in his earlier years. He remained a devoted Yankees fan.
His passion for music remained with an appreciation of all types of music. He acquired a love for piano and organ and took lessons in his later years. He was an accomplished saxophone player and was part of the Army Air Force band in his unit.
Above all of his accomplishments in life, he was most proud of his family and his favorite pastime was that of being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to Dr. James Brunetti and Dr. Marcus Mayus for their unending care, love and support. They would also like to thank the Greenwich Hospital staff of nurses, nurses aides, secretaries, etc., etc. who gave so much of themselves to provide support, comfort and love to Anthony.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 30th, from 4pm to 8pm at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated on Thursday, October 1st at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Avenue, in Riverside CT. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, North Street in Greenwich.
