Attempted SUV Theft Leads to Arrests in Downtown Greenwich

Video surveillance footage helped to ID one suspect who was caught hours after the Friday afternoon incident.

Two men were arrested Saturday evening in connection with the attempted theft of a Range Rover SUV in downtown Greenwich earlier in the day.

Someone reported the attempted theft of the vehicle from Greenwich Avenue near Lewis Street shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. Greenwich Police were able to locate surveillance video that caught the incident on camera, according to a police report.

Using the images from the video including the vehicle that the suspect apparently left in. “Several hours later, Greenwich Police units on Greenwich Avenue saw the suspected vehicle southbound and conducted a motor vehicle stop,” according to the report.

Police identified the suspect from the photos and arrested him and the driver of their vehicle. Raymond A. Tejada, 24, was identified as the man trying to steal the Range Rover and was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny. The man driving the vehicle, Ronald A. Tejada, 20, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny.

Both men, who are from New York City, were held in lieu of $200,000 bond each.
