Beware Of Netflix Scam, Warns Greenwich PD

GREENWICH, CT — Customers of the online entertainment steaming and DVD service Netflix should beware of a "phishing" scam that has been circulating to fraudulently obtain people's financial information, according to Greenwich police.

Through the scheme, Netflix customers in Connecticut and other areas have been contacted via fake emails that their accounts have been suspended.

"The subject line is 'Your suspension notification,' and the body of the email informs victims that their accounts have been suspended due to a billing issue," writes Greenwich police in a Facebook post. "The email directs recipients to click a link that redirects to a fake Netflix landing page. The fake landing page directs victims to input their user information and billing detains in an effort to harvest credentials."

Police officials warn people to know whether a trusted source is contacting them, and to not to click on embedded links in emails.
