Brookside Drive Road Closure Extended To Facilitate Water Main Work
Due to a late start date and unfavorable rock conditions, the timeline for the water main work on Brookside Drive has been extended.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Board of Selectmen on Thursday unanimously approved an extension for the road closure and detour on Brookside Drive so the water main replacement project that began earlier this summer can be completed.
Citing a late start date and unfavorable rock conditions, Dino Georgiadis and John Torielli from contractor A.J. Penna & Son went before the board and requested an extension of 60 days. It's anticipated that the project will be finished in mid-October.
"We feel if we can keep the road closed it would be less intrusive to the neighborhood and the surrounding schools and fire and police," Georgiadis said, noting that 40 percent of the project is finished. In total, roughly 2,300 feet of water main will be replaced.

Torielli said a letter from Aquarion Water Company alerting area residents about the extension has been prepared, and will now be sent out after the board's approval.
Selectperson Lauren Rabin voiced concerns over traffic that backs up in the area during peak hours. Torielli said a uniformed police officer directing traffic could be the solution.
