The project is expected to take about a year to complete. See photos.

GREENWICH, CT — More than 200 students, parents and state, town and school officials Thursday ushered in a new era at Byram's New Lebanon School with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new elementary school building.

Expected to cost almost $40 million, the new International Baccalaureate World School building will serve 374 K-5 students with 21 general classrooms, four dedicated art/music/instructional classrooms, a media center, gym and cafeteria.

Planning the new school has taken more than two years. Construction is expected to take about a year, meaning students will likely begin learning in the new structure in early 2019.

The new school replaces one that is more than 60 years old, prompting Stephen Walko, Chair of the New Lebanon School Building Committee to warmly thank those in attendance at Thursday's ceremony, and the Byram community, for "never losing faith in this project."
