Chickahominy Native, Greenwich Community Volunteer Lawrence J. Pugliese

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15 with the funeral Mass scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Lawrence J. Pugliese, of Greenwich, passed away on Saturday September 12, 2015. He was 86.

He was the son of James and Louise (DeBlase) Pugliese.

Lawrence was a proud native of Chickahominy. An avid baseball player, Lawrence played minor league ball before serving his country honorably as a United States Marine during the Korean conflict.

Later he worked as a contractor and was heavily involved in his community. He served on the Board of Education for New Lebanon School, President of St. Roch’s Home School Association, Vice President of UNIC, and was a member of the Representative Town Meeting, the Architectural Review Board, as well as the Board of Parks and Recreation.

Lawrence was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Greenwich Old Timers. He was also the founder of the “Do Sports Not Drugs” campaign to keep youth away from drugs.

Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Marie (Petruccelli), his sons, Lawrence J. Jr., Gregory D. (Maria), and James (Angelica); and his daughter Marcie DeBardeleben (husband Charlie). He is also survived by his nine cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lawrence is the brother of Eleanor Valmis and the late William Pugliese, Charles Pugliese, Sarah Grandison, Rose Fallanca , Lorenza Santamauro and Gloia Farina.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Greenwich, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwich.
