CT Prosecutors To Take Skakel Case To U.S. Supreme Court: Report

The Kennedy cousin's 2002 murder conviction was overturned by the Connecticut Supreme Court earlier this month.

GREENWICH, CT — The recent overturning of Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel's 2002 conviction for the murder of Martha Moxley in Greenwich will be appealed by Connecticut prosecutors to the United States Supreme Court, reports the Greenwich Time.

The Connecticut Supreme Court overturned the conviction earlier this month because he allegedly had an inadequate defense when he was convicted, which violated his right to a fair trial.

A nephew of Robert F. Kennedy's widow, Ethel Kennedy, Skakel was convicted of the 1975 murder of Moxley when both were teenagers. Prosecutors are appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court because they say the Connecticut court was wrong to overturn its own earlier ruling.
