Daniel R. Pendergast, 74, Retired Greenwich Police Detective

Daniel R. Pendergast, a retired Greenwich Police detective, died on March 3, according to Greenwich police. He was 74.

Mr. Pendergast was born in Greenwich, on Aug. 25, 1938, a son of the late William and Margaret (Doran) Pendergast.

Before joining the Greenwich Police Department on Jan. 1, 1961, Mr. Pendergast served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He also was a member of the National Guard. In 1970, he was promoted to the rank of juvenile officer and then to detective in 1972, the rank he held when he retired Nov. 30, 1982. Among the numerous commendations and letters, he was awarded the Greenwich Lions Club John Clarke Award in 1972.

After his retirement, he relocated to Cape Cod, MA where he volunteered for the Barnstable Volunteer Substation. He was a member of the Hyannis Yacht Club and the Hyannis Anglers Club, according to the Cape Cod Times.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra "Sandy"; his son Bob, daughter Cathie and her husband David Le­Blanc, and his brother Bill and his wife Marghan "Maggie." Many nieces and nephews and their children also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by twin infant grandsons.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at the Federated Church of Hyannis. Burial will be private at a later date.
