Distracted Driving Charge in Greenwich Hit-and-Run Crash

The driver is accused of fleeing after he was confronted by the people inside the car he struck.

Greenwich Police say a driver was distracted by his GPS device, causing him to make a wide turn and slam into a parked car.

The driver is accused of fleeing the scene of the crash at Byram Road and Talbot Lane about 10:35 p.m. June 27 when the occupants of the parked car confronted the man, according to a Greenwich Police report.

Police say the motorist was southbound on Byram Road and became distracted by his GPS device and made a wide turn onto Talbot Lane, and hit the occupied parked car.

The driver was found a short time later in Stamford by Stamford Police and arrested, according to the report. The motorist, identified as Grzegorz M. Gunia, 23, of 18 Walter Wheeler Dr., Stamford, was charged with evading responsibility, operating without a license, improper right turn and distracted driving.

Gunia was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear July 6 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
