Dorothy V. Karrel, died peacefully in her Greenwich home on March 19, 2014. She was 95.
She was born in New York City in 1919, raised in New Haven, and was a graduate of the New Rochelle Nursing School. She was a resident of Greenwich for 57 years and an active member of Christ Church Greenwich.
Mrs. Karrel was an avid reader, prolific writer of the handwritten personal letter, and enthusiastic follower of sports, devoted to her Ohio State Buckeyes.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Holden and husband Peter of Duxbury, MA; two sons Douglas Karrel and his wife Ruthie of Adams, MA, Dean Karrel and his wife Debra of River Vale, NJ; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister Helen Danehy and her husband Joseph of West Haven, and sister-in-law Georgia Buckholz.
She was the widow of Daniel G. Karrel with whom she was married for 60 years. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Charles.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 21 at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22 in the Chapel at Christ Church, 254 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich.
