Ferry Service To Greenwich's Great Captain Island Restored: Parks And Recreation
A new engine was installed on the Islander II ferry as part of a multi-year capital improvement program.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Parks and Recreation Department announced on Friday that ferry service to Great Captain Island has been restored.
The Islander II ferry underwent an engine replacement. The work was part of the town's multi-year capital improvement program to re-power the ferry fleet and increase reliability and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Service to Great Captain Island was expected to resume Friday. The ferry service to Island Beach has continued uninterrupted and remains on schedule.

Great Captain Island is a 17.2-acre town-owned island with a historic lighthouse that was built in 1868, according to the town.
The island features picnic and camping areas as well as a beach on Long Island Sound.

Facilities include restrooms, showers, water fountains, picnic tables, and grills. There is also a 9/11 memorial and bird sanctuary at Great Captain Island.
