Fred J. Meyer, 82; Old Greenwich Resident, Corporate Finance Officer

Fred J. Meyer, of Old Greenwich, passed away at his Old Greenwich home on Dec. 27, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 82.

Mr. Meyer graduated with an M.S. in geology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology cum laude in Zurich, Switzerland. He also graduated with an MBA cum laude from the Harvard Business School in Boston, MA.

Mr. Meyer had a successful business career in diverse industries and retired as Chief Financial Officer of the Omnicom Group in 1999. Mr. Meyer also served on many boards including The Sacred Heart University and Earth Justice Legal Defense Fund.

Mr. Meyer was a strong athlete detained the Swiss record in shot putting in the 1950s. He loved the outdoors, spent many happy times in Vermont, Maine, and New Mexico while traveling abroad mostly the desert lands of West Africa and South America. 

Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marie-Noelle, three sons from a first marriage, Jay, Marc and Michael, a grandson Abel-Lucien, a brother Urs P.Meyer and a sister Brigitte Perna from Switzerland.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich, at 2 p.m., March 8.
