Funeral Services Upcoming for Roy Rowan, Longtime Time, Life Journalist and Greenwich Resident

GREENWICH, CT — Two separate funeral services are being planned for Roy Rowan, the longtime journalist who covered the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
Rowan died Sept. 13 at Greenwich Hospital, according to his Time obituary. As noted by Time, Rowan was one of only two surviving American journalists who covered the Chinese civil war and one of the last journalists to evacuate Saigon by helicopter.
He was 96 at the time of his death, leaving behind a long legacy of his work as a journalist and a writer.

Rowan was born Feb. 1, 1920 in New York City. He moved to Greenwich in 1960 with his wife when he was promoted to Assistant Managing Editor of Life. He is survived by four sons and one grandson.
Two of his sons, Dana and Nicholas Rowan, published a remembrance of his life Sept. 20 for Time.
