George M. Grossman, 93; Normandy Invasion Veteran, Owner of Well Contracting Firm


George M. Grossman, of Riverside, passed away from natural causes on Oct. 2, 2013. He was 93.

He was born on June 14, 1920 in St. Paul, MN and was a resident of Riverside for 61 years. George graduated from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN and later served as a Lieutenant in the Navy, commanding an LCT at Utah beach during the invasion of Normandy. He was the owner of J.P. Harris Well Contractors Inc., serving area wells and pumps for 65 years.

George is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Grossman; his two sons, Jeff (Dede) Grossman of Cos Cob and Jack (Leslie) Grossman of Oakland, CA; and two granddaughters, Jessie and Sara Grossman as well as his brother William in Dublin, CA.

He was also predeceased by two brothers; John, Mahtomedi,MN, and Robert, Alexandria, MN.

A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be given to The Nathaniel Witherell in Greenwich.
