Greenwich Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested: Police

The case began on Friday, April 28.

GREENWICH, CT — A 34-year-old California man has been arrested in connection with the April 28 robbery of a Chase Bank in Greenwich, according to police.

David E. Byers of Solona, California, was arrested early Tuesday in San Diego County by members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the San Diego County Sheriff's Task Force. After fleeing Greenwich following the robbery, Byers led police on a pursuit into Port Chester and to Pennsylvania.

He eventually ended up back in California, and authorities developed leads on his whereabouts and spotted him through surveillance.

In addition to the bank robbery, Byers is also a suspect in the robbery of a Greenwich Citgo gas station a few days before.

He has been charged with:

  • Robbery, 1st degree
  • Robbery, 3rd degree (2 counts)
  • Larceny, 2nd degree
  • Larceny, 6th degree
  • Reckless Endangerment, 1st degree

"This complex case has resulted in a speedy successful arrest through diligent investigation by the Greenwich Police with invaluable assistance provided by our partners in the FBI and members of the Connecticut State Police, Stamford PD, Westchester County PD, MTA PD and Port Chester PD," wrote Greenwich police in a statement.

Byers is being held in lieu of a $200,000 bond, and Greenwich police are seeking to have him extradited back to Connecticut.
