Greenwich Commission On Aging Launches Community Survey

GREENWICH, CT - From the Greenwich Commission on Aging: Please help us heighten the awareness of residents of the Town of Greenwich about the Age Friendly Greenwich Community Survey.

The Commission on Aging is leading the Town of Greenwich Age Friendly Community initiative. Official
designation as an Age Friendly Community will be determined by the AARP/World Health Organization. We are currently in year two (the assessment phase) and our goal is to gather baseline information, establish key indicators and ultimately develop a multi-year phased community Action Plan based on assessment findings. With the assistance of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Consulting Workgroup, we have developed a community survey for residents age 45 and older that includes eight critical domains: Community and Health Care, Transportation, Housing, Social Participation, Outdoor Spaces and Buildings, Respect and Social Inclusion, Civic Participation and Employment, and Communication and Information. We have engaged both internal and external stakeholders and plan to supplement survey findings with Listening Sessions and Community “Walkabouts.”

The Town of Greenwich is the first community in the State of Connecticut to apply for this designation and has been accepted as a member in both the AARP and WHO Network of Age Friendly Communities. An Age Friendly Community aims at making communities better for all residents, providing opportunities for greater connection and enhancing the livability quotient for all.

The Commission on Aging is conducting a confidential survey about making the Town of Greenwich a community that is friendly for residents of all ages and capabilities. Residents, age 45 and older, are invited to share their opinion about how to make Greenwich an even better place to live. Paper surveys are
available in both English and Spanish at Greenwich Town Hall, Greenwich Main Library, Cos Cob & Byram Branches, Perrot Memorial Library, Greenwich Senior Center, The Bruce Museum and Nathaniel Witherell. April 15 – May 15
