GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Democrats last week nominated a slate of candidates for the upcoming November election.

"The candidates were endorsed unanimously at Greenwich Town Hall [Thursday], pledging to usher in a critically-needed new era with a focus on protecting property values, investing in Greenwich schools to complete critical infrastructure projects, securing parking and green space in the face of congestion and climate change, and sound fiscal management that invests in the future of the town and its residents without burdening taxpayers," the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee said in a news release.

Leading the ticket is first selectperson candidate Laura Erickson, a former banker and current Greenwich Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) officeholder.

Along with incumbent Selectperson Janet Stone-McGuigan and the party’s six nominees for the BET, Erickson announced "a vision for burnishing the quality of life and economic vitality that protect our property values," according to the DTC.

"We need a new mindset to address our backlog of needs while respecting our tradition of low taxes," Erickson said in a news release. "I am especially mindful of this when I consider our residents who may be on fixed incomes. And to families with children in our public schools, they are right to be worried when critical issues, and here I’m referring to collapsed ceilings, condemned structures and sewage in our classrooms, aren’t being addressed with the utmost urgency."

Erickson is in her second term on the BET and currently serves on the BET Budget Committee. She is a past chair of the Board of Education and served on the Representative Town Meeting for over a decade on both the finance and health & human services committees.

She is a 30-year resident of Greenwich, and her three children attended Greenwich public schools from K-12. Erickson is also a former PTA co-president at Greenwich High and Riverside School.

Professionally, Erickson was a commercial banker in the technology sector, and is a graduate of Middlebury College.
