Greenwich To Eliminate Parking Services Director Position

Town officials intend to reorganize the department. An interim director has been named.

GREENWICH, CT — The town is eliminating the director's position in the Department of Parking Services, the first step in "a reorganization and redefinition of the functions of the department," according to Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei.

As a result, Director Rita Azrelyant has been relieved of her duties, and an interim director will run the department for the time being.

"With Ms. Asrelyant’s departure, Police Captain Mark Kordick will oversee all facets of the daily operation of the department at the direction of the First Selectman," said Tesei said in a statement. "We thank Ms. Azrelyant for her service to the Town of Greenwich and wish her well as she pursues new endeavors."

The move was made as the Tesei's office begins its annual budget development process with Departmental budget proposals due Dec. 1. The 2018-19 budget will not include the Azrelyant's former position. According to Tesei, the planned reorganization is part of the Greenwich’s "ongoing review process to improve the delivery of Town services."

Earlier this year, a former town accounting clerk was arrested on larceny charges after he was accused of allegedly stealing more than $11,000 from the department.

Captain Kordick previously served as an interim director of Parking Services, and earlier this year was assigned to assist in a review of its business practices.
