GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. Tesei and Parks & Recreation Director Joe Siciliano announced Friday afternoon the date of the town's annual fireworks displays to be held at Binney Park and Greenwich Point Park has been changed. Previously scheduled for Saturday, the shows are now scheduled for Sunday.

According to statement from the town, the date was changed "out of an abundance of caution" due to the National Weather Service forecast for severe thunderstorms Saturday evening.

"It is with an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the thousands of Greenwich residents who attend each fireworks show that we have made the decision to postpone the shows until Sunday," Siciliano said in a statement. "The decision was made during a meeting of my staff with emergency service departments including the Greenwich Police and Greenwich Fire departments, and in consultation with Emergency Management Director Dan Warzoha."
