Greenwich Home Invasion Victims Were Targeted
Greenwich Police: 'We do not believe this was a random act.'
Greenwich Police say they believe the couple who were victims of a home invasion last week were targeted by their assailants.
“We do not believe this be a crime of opportunity or a random act,” said police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. “For whatever reason, they were chosen by the suspects.”
Gray would not comment on whether there is home security surveillance video that captured images of the three masked men who entered the Ridge Street home about 10:15 p.m. Dec. 29. The victims, a married couple, had retired for the evening to the second-floor of the home without locking their front door or activating their security system, police have said.

The couple was confronted by the trio who were armed with crowbars and described as athletically built black males, somewhere between their late 20s and early 30s.
The trio “left with the contents of a safe — jewelry and cash,” Gray said. He would not estimate the value of the stolen items other than to say “the charge would be larceny first.” First-degree larceny involves the theft of goods valued at more than $10,000.

Gray also said, “It’s an open question whether this is linked” to a series of overnight burglaries that were reported over the Thanksgiving weekend. “We’re not linking this to every single burglary we’ve investigated,” Gray added.
