Greenwich Mourns Passing Of President George H.W. Bush

GREENWICH, CT — George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president of the United States, passed away Friday in Texas. The father of President George W. Bush, and the patriarch of one of America's endearing political dynasties, he was 94 years old. Dec. 5 will be a National Day of Mourning for the late President.

Bush spent his formative years in Greenwich when his father, Prescott Bush, was a U.S. Senator from Connecticut.

He attended Greenwich Country Day School, and also met his wife of 73 years, the late Barbara Bush, at a dance in Greenwich.

Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei issued the following statement to Patch and other media outlets on President Bush's passing:

The Town of Greenwich, like the nation and the world, mourns the loss of one of its own - a member of the "Greatest Generation."

President George H.W. Bush was a true hometown boy, that regardless of his position in the
global sphere of political power, he remained forever tied to his family roots here in Greenwich.
President Bush was the epitome of selfless service to his country. His modesty, his genuine and
dignified character served him well as the consummate patriot, statesman and president. His
steadfast demeanor established the high standard of conduct for those who hold our Nation's
highest office.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Bush family with the gratitude that they so willingly
shared their "Poppy"George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president of the United States George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president of the United States with our nation to help make the United States the global power it is. May he now rest in peace with his beloved Barbara who passed away in April.
