Greenwich Police Department Mourns Death Of Retired Officer

Thomas "Duke" F. Daly began his career with the Greenwich Police Department on July 1, 1953, and he retired on April 9, 1976, the GPD said.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is mourning the recent death of retired GPD patrolaman and dispatcher Thomas "Duke" F. Daly. He was 93 years old.

"We join all members of the department in extending our sincere sympathy to the Daly family," the GPD said in a Facebook post Thursday morning.

Daly began his 22-year career with the GPD on July 1, 1953, and he retired on April 9, 1976, the GPD said.

Daly was born on Feb. 21, 1930, and raised in Greenwich, the department said. Prior to becoming a Greenwich police officer, Daly served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953.

The department noted that Daly served in the traffic and patrol divisions and received numerous commendations for his work as an accident investigator. Daly worked as a radio dispatcher - ambulance coordinator in the last few years of his career, the department said, adding that his file contains many citations for exceptional police work and "thank you" letters from citizens.

Daly was predeceased by his wife Rosemary Wilson Daly, a former administrative clerical assistant with the GPD, as well as his father, retired Sgt. Michael Daly, the GPD said.
