Greenwich Police Mourn Death Of Retired Officer

John Bambino worked as a Greenwich police officer for over 21 years.

GREENWICH, CT — John Bambino, a lifelong Greenwich resident and former longtime police officer in town, died on Dec. 27 after an illness, according to his obituary. He was 83.

The Greenwich Police Department paid tribute to Bambino in a Facebook post this week.

Bambino joined the GPD on June 1, 1965, and retired on Aug. 1, 1986, the department said. Before becoming a police officer, Bambino served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965.

"Officer Bambino's unwavering dedication to duty was evident throughout his career in the Patrol Division," the GPD said. "His personnel file, filled with letters of thanks from grateful citizens and several commendations, is a testament to this."

After retiring from the force, Bambino completed his bachelor's degree as an accounting major at Fairfield University and later joined a multinational company, his obituary notes. He also devoted himself to the community by becoming a substitute teacher in Greenwich Public Schools.

A memorial mass for Bambino will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Saint Catherine's-Saint Agnes Church in Riverside.

"We stand with all members of the Department in extending our heartfelt condolences to the Bambino family during this difficult time," the GPD added.
