GREENWICH, CT — A Greenwich police officer was promoted to the rank of sergeant Thursday after serving the department for nearly a decade.
According to police, Daniel Bucci was hired as a Greenwich police officer on April 11, 2011, and was promoted to the rank of detective in September 2017.
Bucci has also served as a field training officer, where he was responsible for training and mentoring the department's new officers. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"Sgt. Bucci is a mentor and leader for many of our younger officers at the department," Police Chief James Heavey said in a statement, "and has been an example of service and fairness for them to follow."
Bucci is a state Police Officer Standards and Training Council-certified instructor in defensive tactics and other areas of expertise. He is a lead instructor for the department's women's self-defense program, which teaches women in the community "invaluable tactics to protect themselves in dangerous situations," according to police.

Bucci was previously named Officer of the Month and received an investigator's ribbon in March 2019 for his work in solving an ATM burglary spree, his investigation of which helped close twelve additional cases across the state, police said.
He has also received recognition for his involvement in other investigations and assistance at medical scenes, police said.
Bucci graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
