Greenwich Police Warn Residents Of Text Scam: What To Know

Individuals have received text messages purporting to be from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is warning residents about a recent scam in which individuals are receiving text messages claiming to be from the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, stating the recipient has an unpaid traffic fine.

"The fraudulent message warns that if the fine is not paid immediately, the recipient may face penalties such as license suspension, vehicle registration suspension, additional fees, legal action, or impacts to their credit," police said in a Facebook post. "These messages are scams."

The GPD noted it will never request payment for tickets or fines via text message, phone call, or email.
