Greenwich RTM District Seeks To Fill 2 Vacancies
Ever thought of serving on the Representative Town Meeting? If you live in this district, now's your chance.

GREENWICH, CT — Representative Town Meeting District 9, which covers the Glenville and Pemberwick sections of Greenwich, is seeking to fill two vacancies in June, officials announced this week. Any person who is a registered voter in District 9 is eligible to be a member of RTM District 9.
"If you want to learn more about how our Town works and if you want to influence how our Town grows then you should consider joining the RTM," wrote officials in a statement. "You will see your elected officials and Town department heads defend their requests for funding. You will hear all sides of proposed ordinances. You will learn how the Town meeting process works."
District 9 will meet to vote on the candidates to fill the vacancies on Thursday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Western Greenwich Civic Center.

The RTM, which has 230 members from 12 districts, is the legislative body in Greenwich, and last fall elected more than 70 new members. According to the town's website, the RTM's duties include:
- Approve all expenditures by the town over $5000;
- Approve, reduce, and eliminate appropriations;
- Approve or reject nominations to town bodies as made by the selectmen decide whether the town shall accept federal or state funds for town projects;
- Create special committees to deal with particular subjects such as labor contracts, claims, and redistricting;
- Pass "sense of the meeting" resolutions urging that other branches of government initiate desired legislation, or expressing disapproval of actions that have been taken; act as the final planning authority on municipal improvements;
- Initiate and pass ordinances.
