GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department has released crime and incident statistics for the month of March, and notably, there was an increase in burglaries compared to the prior month.

According to the department, there were zero burglary incidents in February, but that number jumped to seven in March. The department offered up the following tips to help curb the latest crime trend:

  • Keep Lights On: When leaving your home, keep a few lights on to create the illusion that someone is home. This can deter potential burglars.
  • Install an Audible Alarm: A visible alarm system can be a strong deterrent, but an audible one can alert neighbors and scare off intruders.
  • Inform a Trusted Neighbor or Friend: If you’re leaving for an extended period, let someone you trust know, so they can keep an eye on your property.
  • Don’t Let Your Mail Pile Up: Arrange for someone to collect your mail while you’re away, or consider a temporary hold with the post office. Piles of mail or newspapers are a clear sign that a home is unoccupied.
  • Pick Up Packages Promptly: If you’re expecting a delivery, try to pick up packages as soon as they arrive. Unattended packages left on doorsteps are another giveaway that no one is home.

"We appreciate your cooperation and support in enhancing public safety. Together, we can work towards reducing these incidents and ensuring our neighborhoods remain secure," police said in a social media post. "If you notice any suspicious activity, please report it to the Greenwich Police Department immediately."
