Drew Marzullo - Greenwich Selectman - Makes Decision On Political Future

Marzullo was arrested by Clinton police on Aug. 26 on a charge of fifth-degree larceny. First Selectman Tesei offers his thoughts.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Selectman Drew Marzullo, arrested last month for allegedly shoplifting from two outlet stores in Clinton, said Wednesday that he will not resign from office and will appear on the ballot this fall for re-election, reports the Greenwich Time.

Marzullo has served since 2009 and is seeking a fifth term, and he said in a statement that he reached his decision after "thoughtful consideration and encouragement." He also said he is extremely grateful for that encouragement, and he still has accomplishments that he hopes to achieve.

In addition to seeking re-election to the Board of Selectmen, Marzullo was also exploring a run for Connecticut Lieutenant Governor next year, but he did not mention whether that will continue, according to the publication.

Patch has reached out to Marzullo twice for comment but has not heard back.

First Selectman Peter Tesei said in a statement sent to Patch and other media outlets that voters will ultimately decide on Marzullo's fate on the Board of Selectmen.

"For the past eight years, the Board of Selectmen, with Drew as a member, has worked collaboratively to place the interest of the citizens of Greenwich first," said Tesei. "Drew’s decision to remain on this November’s ballot and to continue to serve the residents of Greenwich after this unfortunate circumstance reflects his willingness to want to continue in this endeavor.

"Ultimately, the voters will decide who will serve on the Board of Selectmen for the next two years."

Marzullo is a 46-year-old Democrat and Cos Cob resident, and he was arrested by Clinton police on Aug. 26 on a misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree larceny.

He is accused of allegedly taking several hundred dollars worth of items from a J.Crew store and a Skechers store, and is free after posting a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Oct. 17.
